### Pre-Calculus

Prepares students to take a full calculus class in the fall, reviews advanced algebra concepts, trigonometry, and introduction to limits.

What are math intensives?

Math intensives are condensed summer review sessions for a particular math course. Rather than paying for expensive one-on-one tutoring that just reviews your homework, math intensive sessions are instead mini-courses that strategically cover the most important concepts to make sure you have a solid foundation to build on. Math intensives are good in the following circumstances:

- To help students who struggled in a math course and want to make sure they understand the key concepts
- To assist students taking math during the summer math
- To prepare students to apply concepts learned to the ACT and/or SAT
- To review math students may be rusty on so they can be prepared for the fall

What is the structure for the classes?

Math intensives meet for one hour, twice a week (Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday) with assignments for off-days, and meet in Murfreesboro or Smyrna. Full course reviews are 8 weeks (16 sessions), condensed reviews are available for 4 week classes (8 sessions). Different day/time options and full summer options available if there is interest.

There will be handouts with assignments for each section. If the student already has a textbook the tutor will work to assign relevant sections out of the student’s book.

What is the cost?

The cost for each session is tiered based on the number of students in the class. Classes meet twice a week, and must be purchased in one-month blocks.

2 Students: $25* per hour ($200 per month)

3 Students: $18* per hour ($144 per month)

4 Students: $16* per hour ($128 per month)

5 Students: $14* per hour ($112 per month)

6 Students: $12* per hour ($96 per month)

7 Students: $11* per hour ($88 per month)

8-10 Students: $10* per hour ($80 per month)

In addition there is a single $10 copy fee (for 4 or 8 week course) per student to cover costs of copies for handouts.

*Smyrna classes charge an additional $2 per hour and are capped at 7 students.

Who is the tutor?

Matthew Bullington has been tutoring math for 12 years, including 4 years working with students with learning and physical disabilities at MTSU, 4 years as academic mentor for the MTSU Atheltic Department, 1 year tutoring for Sylvan Learning Center, 3 years as a math tutor for private tutorials, and numerous hours of private tutoring for elementary through college level students.

Matthew loves teaching and instilling confidence in his students while simultaneously demonstrating the relevancy of the math concepts students are learning. As a college consultant, Matthew has also worked extensively on helping students prepare for the ACT and SAT exams, and incorporates practice problems for both exams into each study session.
